Cornwall Transit establishing temporary stop near Waterfest site

Waterfest

Cornwall Transit is establishing a temporary bus stop on Saturday, August 11th near the old Cornwall Canal, home of the 3rd annual Sun Life Cornwall Waterfest.

“We want to make it easy for residents to get to the site and enjoy all of the activities that will be taking place at Waterfest,” said Transit Division Manager Len Tapp.

The Riverdale bus route will be diverted to the corner of Haulage and Second Street west all day Saturday (from 8:15 am to 6 pm) to pick up and drop off festival goers. Aside from a small detour, the bus will continue to travel its regular route and no regular bus stops will be missed.

In addition to the popular Dragon Boat Races, this year’s Waterfest will also feature a Water Run, a Strongman Competition, the Dragon Egg Drop, an ArtFest featuring over 40 artists and live buskers.

“We’re excited about the slate of events for this year’s Waterfest,” said Johanna Murray, one of the event organizers. “We think it will be a hit with both participants and spectators.”

Funds raised from Waterfest will go to the local chapter of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

“We’re grateful to be selected as the charity of choice,” said Area Manager Cindy Rowe. “Physical activity can be a life-saver. When you’re active, you can dramatically lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.”
