Hundreds of cyclists winding through Cornwall as part of MS Bike Tour

MS Bike Tour

Roughly 600 cyclists will wind their way along Cornwall’s recreational path on August 11th and 12th as part of a regional bike tour that serves as a fundraiser for the MS Society.

The MS Bike Tour kicks off on August 11th in South Gloucester and winds its way through the countryside to Farran Park in Ingleside. The tour will then continue along Cornwall’s picturesque recreational path before wrapping up at the NAV CENTRE – a total distance of 110 kilometres. For those participants who are looking for an added challenge, an additional 25-kilometre loop to Hamilton Island is offered as well. Participants can opt to do the one leg of the tour or stay overnight and complete the return trip on August 12th.

The event has been running for 22 years, however in previous years, the tour wrapped up in Kemptville.

“This is the first time that it comes to Cornwall,” said Karen Torrie-Racine of the MS Society Cornwall and District Chapter. “I think the cyclists are really excited. They’re going to be cycling right along the St. Lawrence River. It’s a real bonus.”

Mrs. Torrie-Racine said the MS Society chapters in Cornwall and Ottawa are working together to plan the event. Funds raised from the bike tour will assist the MS Society in its mission to provide services and support to residents and families living with MS, in addition to MS research.

Organizers will be erecting a pair of welcome and thank you signs along the recreational path to help greet the cyclists, and Mrs. Torrie-Racine is encouraging all residents to extend the customary Cornwall welcome to the visitors.

“Make sure you wave and welcome them if you happen to see them go by,” she added.
