Aultsville Winter Filmfest

The 6th annual Aultsville Winter Filmfest will be held February 17th to 19th with all screenings taking place at Aultsville Theatre.

The festival will highlight some of the best international and independent films of the past year as well as screen short films by local students and artists before each feature.

“We are very excited to hold the festival at Aultsville Theatre this year," stated Melanie Baker Brown, Filmfest Coordinator. “The festival is a benefit for Aultsville Theatre, and we are thrilled to be able to show feature films at this beautiful venue.”

Councillor Syd Gardiner, the Aultsville Theatre President, is equally enthused.

“It makes sense to hold the festival at Aultsville Theatre," Councillor Gardiner said. "It will be an amazing weekend event for the entire community.”

The initial titles include the critically acclaimed “The Tree of Life”, the French comedy “Potiche”, “When We Leave” from Turkey, and “Vincere” from Italy.

“The Tree of Life” from director Terrence Malick won the top prize at the last Cannes film festival and stars Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain and Sean Penn.

“Potiche” from director Francois Ozon is a period comedy starring Catherine Deneuve and Gerard Depardieu.

“When We Leave” is a Turkish/German co-production concerning families, new beginnings and honour killings.

“Vincere” from Italian director Marco Bellochio is one of the strongest international films of the last few years and chronicles the relationship between a young Benito Mussolini and his unacknowledged wife.

Two other titles will be announced shortly.

This year the 6 film pass includes admission to all screenings and invitation to our on stage Saturday evening reception and afternoon coffee breaks.  The festival provides opportunity for film lovers to escape for a weekend and meet old friends and new.

Passes are still just $100 and are now on sale at the Civic Complex box office (613-938-9400).

Full program information will be announced shortly both in local press and at our website www.aultsvilletheatre.com.

The Aultsville Winter Filmfest is a fundraising effort to support the ongoing maintenance, operation and renovation of Cornwall’s own Aultsville Theatre.
