Residents invited to attend annual Remembrance Day Ceremony

Remembrance Day

Residents are welcome to attend the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11th at 11 am at the Cornwall Cenotaph on Second Street West in Downtown Cornwall.

“On behalf of my colleagues on City Council, I would like to invite all Cornwall residents to join in honoring our soldiers and veterans this Remembrance Day,” said Mayor Bob Kilger. “The Canadian men and women who have fought for our freedom will never be forgotten.”

The procession will start at 10:45 am at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 297 (at the corner of Second Street West and Cumberland Street) prior to the service. Residents are welcome to return to the Legion following the Ceremony.

Office closures
City Administration offices will be closed on Monday, November 11th for Remembrance Day.

The Benson Centre and Aquatic Centre will be open for regular programming on November 11th, and Cornwall Transit buses will be running. The Cornwall Public Library will also be open on November 11th.

There will be no changes to the garbage & recycling schedule.

Commemoration of Occupation of Cornwall, War of 1812
On November 11th, 1813, American troops occupied Cornwall forcing the evacuation of the settlement. On the same day, Canadian and British forces defeated the main American Army at Crysler’s Farm. 

The bicentennial of the occupation of Cornwall will be commemorated with a plaque unveiling on Friday, November 8th at 2 pm in front of the Water Street Court House at the corner of Pitt and Water Streets.

Members of the public are welcome to attend.
