A group of NHL players will be in Cornwall, Ontario on Monday, November 5, 2012 for a charity hockey game to benefit the Cornwall Chapter of the Max Keeping Foundation and First Assist, a charity that funds programs to benefit First Nations youth in fly-in communities.

Game time at the Cornwall Civic Complex is set for 7:30 pm.

The two teams will consist of locked out players from various NHL teams including Ottawa Senators Chris Neil and teammates Zach Smith and Marc Methot.

Former Cornwall Colt and Long Sault native, Jesse Winchester will also be in the line-up.

Other players expected to suit up include Brian Gionta (Montreal), Stephen Gionta (New Jersey) and Tyler Kennedy (Pittsburgh).

“I’m excited to announce that we (NHLPA) will be playing in Cornwall,” said John Chabot, a former NHLer and coach who is the driving force behind the event.

“The City of Cornwall and the surrounding areas are made up of tremendous hockey fans and they will enjoy seeing NHL players up close,” Chabot said. “There will be a number of opportunities for fans to interact with the players.”

Chabot is in the midst of organizing a series of games for the locked out professionals still in Ottawa which could take them to other locations in Ontario before moving on to Northern Quebec and the Northwest Territories.

“We’ve had a lot of interest from other towns to visit and play. Everything has come together very quickly,” Chabot said.

Tickets for the Cornwall game will cost $20 per person but if you say the password (First Assist Charity) you will get two tickets for the price of one. Tickets will be available at the Civic Complex Box Office (100 Water Street) as of Friday, November 2nd during regular business hours.

Tickets can also be purchased at the Benson Centre on Friday, November 2nd from 5 pm to 9:30 pm, Saturday, November 3rd from 8 am to 9 pm and Sunday, November 4th from 8 am to 10 pm.

Tickets will also be available at the Cornwall Civic Complex on Monday, November 5th from 8:30 am right up until puck drop.
