Santa Claus Parade

Santa Claus will be stopping down in Cornwall on Saturday, November 16th to participate in the annual Santa Claus Parade as well as a variety of other family activities in the community.

Over 30 floats, bands and dance groups are set to join Santa on his annual march through the City, and the theme for this year’s parade is “Family and Friends at Christmas.”

“It’s shaping up to be a great parade,” said Terry Muir, Chair of the Santa Claus Parade Committee. “It’s probably the highest number of floats we’ve had in a few years.”

The parade will begin at 5 pm at St. Lawrence Secondary School and continue west along Second Street to Bedford Street.

In order to ensure the safety of spectators and parade participants, no traffic will be allowed on the parade route section of Second Street.

Mr. Muir said there is still time for businesses and organizations to enter floats in the parade if they wish. It’s free to enter, and additional info can be found on the Parade website, www.cornwallsantaclausparade.com.

Members of the Cornwall Fire Department will be walking the parade route to collect toys and money in support of Sparky’s Toy Drive.

The parade is just one of several activities that will be taking place on November 16th to help ring in the holiday season.

Downtown Cornwall will play host to a variety of activities during the day, including a children’s street hockey tournament, the lighting of a community Christmas tree in front of the Justice Building (340 Pitt Street) and other community activities.

A number of Downtown businesses will also be offering special promotions as part of the event.
