Glen Stor Dun Lodge Centennial Ceremony

Residents, staff, volunteers and dignitaries gathered at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge on Wednesday, June 20th to officially mark the facility’s 100th anniversary.

Lodge Administrator Norm Quenneville was joined at the podium by a number of guest speakers, including Mayor Bob Kilger and SD & G Warden Ian McLeod. Certificates of appreciation were also received from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Governor General David Johnston through the office of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MP Guy Lauzon.

Mayor Kilger expressed gratitude to all of the staff and volunteers who contribute to make the Lodge a caring and friendly place for residents and their families. Mayor Kilger was speaking from experience as his own mother resides at the Lodge.

“You all contribute to make the residents stay here the most dignified . . . and the most respectful it can be,” he said.

During the ceremony, officials unveiled a memorial cairn next to the Lodge’s outdoor gazebo which offers residents and visitors a picturesque view of the St. Lawrence River. A time capsule was installed inside the cairn for a future generation to uncover. In addition, a memorial tree was also planted on the southern lawn of the Lodge facing Montreal Road.

Centennial Reunion Barbecue in August
As part of the 100th anniversary celebrations at the Lodge, officials will be hosting a Centennial Reunion Barbecue on Saturday, August 18th. The barbecue will be held at the Lodge (1900 Montreal Road) from 4 pm to 8 pm, rain or shine.

It is open to all past and present Lodge employees, and there is no cost to attendees.

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by August 1st with Shannon Mongillo (613-933- 3384 ext 237) or Tracey Delage (613-933-3384 x 248).

Glen Stor Dun Lodge is an accredited 132-bed, non-profit facility offering long term care and outreach services to the citizens of our community. A Committee of Management consisting of representatives from the City of Cornwall and the United Counties of S, D & G oversee the Home.

The roots of the Glen Stor Dun Lodge date back to 1912 when construction began on the House of Refuge and Industry to serve Cornwall and S, D & G. In 1932, the facility was renamed Glen Stor Dun Lodge, Home for the Aged. In 1952, the Lodge moved from its original location to a new site along the St. Lawrence River. The second facility was eventually replaced by the present Lodge in April 1994.
