Santa Claus Parade

Santa Claus will be stopping down in Cornwall on Saturday, November 19th, and he won't be visiting alone.

The 40th Annual Santa Claus Parade is being held on Saturday, and upwards of 30 floats, bands and dance groups are slated to join Santa on his march through the city.

The parade will start at 5 pm at St. Lawrence Secondary School and head west along Second Street to the Royal Canadian Legion Brach 297.

Following the parade, residents are welcome to stop by the Legion for free hot dogs and hot chocolate and to watch the parade awards ceremony.

"There's a mix of everything - schools, businesses and industries," said Parade Committee member Wendy Muir in describing the entries for this year's parade.

Cornwall's Santa Claus Parade made the switch to become an evening celebration several years ago. For many, it serves as the official kick-off to the holiday season.

The theme of this year's parade is "Santa's Workshop." Those who aren't able to attend in person can watch the parade live on TV Cogeco (Cable Channel 11).

Members of the Cornwall Community Police Service will be on hand to ensure the safety of both Parade spectators and participants.

No traffic will be allowed on Second Street from 4:30 pm until the end of the parade. Also, No Parking signs will be erected on Second Street from Anthony Street to Brookdale Avenue. Police officers will use their discretion to tow vehicles in contravention of the posted signs.

Residents are advised that detours may be necessary in order to reduce the interaction between vehicles, pedestrians and parade participants.
