Enjoy free parking after 4 pm in Downtown and Le Village during holidays

Posted on Thursday November 16, 2017

Residents can take advantage of free parking after 4 pm in the Downtown and Le Village areas when heading out to shop or dine during the holiday season.

Cornwall City Council recently passed a motion to waive parking fees after 4 pm in all designated on-street parking spaces and municipal parking lots in the Downtown and Le Village commercial areas.

The free parking measure is in effect from now until the end of December.

“We want people to buy local, so let’s make it easy for them to go and buy local,” said Councillor Andre Rivette.

Paid parking is typically in place between the hours of 9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday. The cost is $1 per hour.

Be Local Campaign
The Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce, Heart of the City and Cornwall Economic Development are encouraging residents to shop local this holiday season. A social media campaign is underway and a limited number of ‘Eat. Shop. Live. Be. Local.’ t-shirts have been created to drive home the importance of being involved in your community.

Overnight winter parking restrictions
Weather-based overnight winter parking restrictions begin this week. From Nov. 15 to Dec. 14, parking on any City street is prohibited between 1 am - 7 am on days when a snowfall of 5 cm or more is forecast by Environment Canada. Full restrictions take effect Dec. 15. The parking restrictions are in place to ensure snow clearing activities can be completed in a safe and effective manner.
