Accounting Coordinator

The City of Cornwall is seeking an Accounting Coordinator to add to the leadership team in Financial Services who will support the long-term strategic goals and priorities of the team, as well as ensure objectives and priorities are aligned with the Corporation's strategic direction.

This position will report to the Accounting Manager/Deputy Treasurer and will assist in the administration of the financial accounting and processing functions of the Corporation.  The Accounting Coordinator will ensure internal controls are properly executed and will continually look for improvements; be responsible for performing all accounting duties relating to accounts payable; cash management; and will play a key role in the budgeting process. Equally important will be your comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, provincial legislation, tax laws and your ability to work with departmental staff.  As part of the Finance team, you will also reconcile and prepare data for the Auditors along with preparing financial statements and supporting schedules to the audited statements.

As an ideal candidate, you will have a University degree or College diploma in Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance, accompanied by a minimum of four (4) years of accounting and/or audit experience; Demonstrated experience with financial systems for financial reporting and budgeting (the City uses CMiC, FMW, and SCO Unix); Strong analytical and problem solving abilities; effective written and oral communication skills, superior interpersonal skills, coaching/motivational skills, strategic thinking, adaptability, and negotiation skills; Mathematical skills to check and perform calculations required to produce necessary reports and statistics; strong knowledge of Microsoft applications including Excel (advanced), Word, and PowerPoint.  As part of the interview process, selected applicants will be tested in Excel.
Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards and a CPA designation will be considered assets.

The City of Cornwall offers a competitive compensation starting at $68,910 per year and a comprehensive benefits package.
