2014 Elections - Information for Candidates

The City of Cornwall 2014 Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 27th, 2014.

Beginning on Thursday, January 2nd, 2014, nominations can be filed at the office of the City Clerk at City Hall, 360 Pitt Street (second floor). The deadline for nominations is 2 pm on Friday, September 12th, 2014.

A person may be nominated for office in the 2014 Municipal Election by filing a prescribed form along with a nomination filing fee of $200 for the Head of Council and $100 for all other offices. This fee is payable by cash, Interac (debit) card, certified cheque or by money order.

The form can be filed in person or through an agent but must be signed by the candidate. A Nomination Form may also be filed in the office of the Returning Officer or Designate during the period set out below. Faxes will not be accepted.

Nominations must be submitted during regular business hours between January 2nd, 2014 and September 12th, 2014, at the office of the City Clerk, 360 Pitt Street (second floor), Cornwall. Nomination papers may also be filed between 8:30 am and 2 pm on September 12th, 2014 (Nomination Day).


How To Be Nominated

  • Download the Nomination Form here or obtain a copy of the Nomination Form from the City Clerk's office (Returning Officer) or Designate.
  • Clearly indicate the name and address of the person to be nominated and all other information required.
  • A person seeking office must be a qualified elector in the municipality or district school board.
  • A person seeking office for a district school board must be a qualified elector and supporter of the district school board.
  • Return the completed Nomination Form to the office of the City Clerk during regular business hours.

To Be Elected

Mayor - One (1) to be elected at large
Councillors - Ten (10) to be elected at large

Trustees

  • Upper Canada District School Board (English Public)
  • Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (English Separate)
  • Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l'Est ontarien (French Separate)
  • Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario (French Public)

Anyone interested in being nominated for School Board Trustee for any of the school boards listed above must present themselves to the City Clerk’s Office of the City of Cornwall to file their nomination papers.
